Been an investor since 2017 so early stages. The information has always been reliable about their loans. They make it clear that you can loose your money, which I did on a total of two investments from my total of 36 investments over the years. One of them was all money lost, the other I got almost all money back from the investment (90%). Both of which was in the earlier years and they where a B and a D rating. It’s always a risk to invest money but as always: spread out your investments. The setup is a win-win-win if you are willing to spare your money. Win for the investor to get interest, win for the climate to switch from fossil fuels and win for the local economy of underdeveloped nations by creating job opportunities locally. I think the concept is great, it feels good, and the website is easy to use and provide good statistics. Can fully recommend.

I have invested in Trine since 2016 and had early on two investments that was repaid due to bancrupcy. This hasn't happened since and I have also actively spread my risks over several companies and countries. Loans have been paid back in full with the promised interest rate and I have now earned more on the interest than what I lost on those early loans. My experience is that Trine has been very transparent through all of this, explaining what has happened and informed me about my options. I hightly recommend Trine for the combination of boosting sustainable development and making a profit. I have now decided to use Trine as my long-term savings account for my two kids. This is in every sense an investment for the future.

I've been with Trine since 2018, watching them grow and gain experience. In the first few years, I had several non-performing loans. So far, my defaults make up half of all the interest I received. However, this has greatly improved in recent years. At first they focused mainly on investing in companies active in B2C (read: selling poor people solar products), but it turns out that hardly ever works out financially. A few years ago they changed focus to B2B, mostly financing larger solar installations for companies in emerging markets. The impact is arguably as big - since it contributes to secure power in countries that sometimes lack it - but lower risk overall. It appears they have learned from their mistakes and also became more transparent along the way, which is why I'm increasing my commitment to Trine again.

I have invested 39,950€ in 32 projects. 6 projects is Defaulted. 4 projects is “best effort recovery”. Interest earned 5,685. Loss is 4,502€. Total win is 1,183€ for a 40,000€ investment over 5 years time……….no thank you!!!
I've been investing through Trine since 2017, after other companies stopped offering the opportunity to directly invest in renewable energy to small investors and focused on large institutional investors. The site works very well and the new option to automatically diversify investments is handy. The option I miss is to auto reinvest the repayments received. On the other hand it makes me come back to take a look at the investment opportunities once in a while. I like the ability to invest in energy transition abroad, as it gives people in Africa, Asia and South-America the opportunity to leapfrog beyond fossil fuels and beyond the internal combustion engine too. I've had some bad luck with lendors not being able to repay their loans, but that's part of the game. I diversify and spread my investments.
It's either 5 star reviews or 1 star reviews. And I get both. For me it's an BIG win with a little money that I don't really need anyways. If I would invest these 200 Euro somewhere else maybe the payback would be greater, but that would be money I still don't really need. So I reinvest what money I have and make an impact. I wish more people would do the same!

During 7 years with Trine, my average interest is slightly better than an ordinary bank account –despite/because of some defaulted loans. This might not sound as the best of investments, and it isn't – if you're looking for maximum profit only. But as a combo of 3—investment, aid and climate compensation—it's outstanding! Your money does double (triple?) good, and you get them back with interest. Win, win, win!
From the beginning I was very enthusiastic about doing my part, avoiding co2 etc. But the returns or should I say, the lack thereof, have made me a very cautious investor. As of right now my portfolio is about -13% (30+ loans, 8 defaulted!!) since the beginning. The interest rates really don't reflect the risk. IMHO 10-15% would be more realistic. I do use other platforms for investments and most of them have almost twice the interest and what I can remember I only have one defaulted investment over any of those sites. The homepage really needs some upgrading though. Pleas give me som graphs. Its very uninformative about you economy. But you do get a lot of information what you're loan achieves, i.e. co2 avoided, people with electricity, gender equality, affordable energy etc. There's even a co2 leaderboard...

I fell for Trine as a beginner in investments, was appealed of both doing good and earning money. I did not earn money. This is not sound investments, the risk is very high since it is so few projects and it's probably way too low interest. Buy index funds instead and work on lower your own co2 emissions. Trine focus a lot on communication but when the projects are going bad the communication slowly disappears.

This must be the definition of win-win. It feels very rewarding to know your money does something useful in the world and increasing in value at the same time. I’ve invested around 20 000 € over the last five years, split between a hundred or so investments. Amounts between 25€ to 800€ per project. I’ve made 1600 € in interest so far. 98% of the loans has been payed back or are currently repaying. A couple of loans in the early days was defaulted due to military conflicts in the areas and other reasons. Since then Trine has changed their procedures and it’s been a smooth experience. My advice, however, is to do small investments and spread them out. Thank you Trine for this brilliant service!
I have invested in 84 different loans since 2020, and I am more than happy with trine. Sure, they are late with the repayments, a lot, but they always come and all my loans has been repaid as they should. As of now 250 Euros repaid interest, all reinvested, and no losses. I might just be in luck, or I’ve diversified enough :)

Trine might be good from a development/aid perspective but it does not make sense as an investment. The interest rates are too low considering the risks. I have invested in 16 loans. Out of these 10 are repaid or on schedule, 5 are delayed and 1 has been settled with a 70%-90% loss, offsetting all profits. I expect to make quite a loss given that 5 more loans are distressed. 4-7% interest in investing in small companies in Africa, Asia, and South America seems crazy today. I think the market rate should be +15%

Trine offers a product with positive environmental impact. This is great. However the loans they offer have been rather risky. I have been investing through Trine since 2018 and as of today, I have lost 70% of my profits due to defaults. And more defaults are on the horizon... This is quite disappointing. Consequently, if you want to do good with your money invest though Trine but be aware of the risk you're taking.

It provides a detailed preview of the upcoming repayments you can expect from your investments. 2. It gives you a good feeling by providing a personalized "My Impact" overview which shows how much CO2 your investments avoided and how many people have received supply by renewable energy. It also breaks down how many of your investments feeded into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. 3. Trine is an open company. It gathers user feedback and integrates it in their product development. By using the "submit an idea" feature you can share what product feature you would like to see in the future. Of course, not always everything works out as planned. But also in these cases, Trine takes your feedback seriously and finds a timely solution. I've been an investor since 2018 and I am very happy with Trine. Considering photovoltaic now being the cheapest source of electricity in history (according to the IEA), installing solarpower where it has the most impact makes sense. I wondered why investments in welfare in developing countries had to be based on charity, while investments in the already developed and fossil economy where for profit. Trine provided me with the combination I was looking for: Transparent, for profit investments that potentially makes a difference. Thanks to the transparency, the frequent information provided by Trine and my portfolio's track record. Yes, a few of my loans have defaulted, but this is why you need to diversify. I am a happy investor.

I've seen the negative reviews, if you're into making money by investing in whatever, go somewhere else. Overall, I think that I earned a bit extra with them (there were also some defaults). Good high risk investment platform into green causes. As with any investment there are risks associated. Loans are associated to specific companies and countries each with their own circumstances. Great website with overview of all loans and repayments, and they also assist with parts of tax declaration depending on what country you are based in.
Great investment while contributing to something good. I have invested small to medium sums for some years now and it has worked smoothly. There was some delays with payments for some loans during covid but else no problems. If investing larger sums I spread btw projects. I have made profits while contributing to less CO2.
It’s a good idea and a good cause, but a very unsafe place for your money. I’v lost about a third of my investment. Half if I don’t count the interest repaid.
Be very careful. I so wanted this to work - helping the planet, supporting developing countries and making a small return - unfortunately too good to be true. Two of the investments I made have defaulted with a loss of more than €5000.
Good way to put your money to work making a positive impact. Others have given poor reviews suggesting a lack of due diligence, but frankly if you want to try and make a difference then you need to target riskier investments in countries with less developed infrastructure. Of the 10 or so investments I've made with Trine, all but one of them have gone smoothly. One investment in Myanmar has been subject to delayed repayments, but seeing as the country has been going through a military coup it would be pretty unfair to blame Trine for this. The website is clear and easy to use and communication is good. Repayments with the exception of extreme cases has been smooth. For those of you wanting to put your money to good use improving the world and don't mind inheriting a degree of risk, highly recommended. P.s. diversify your investments if you want to minimise risk!
I prefer give money to charity. I'm happy I did not invest a big sum because several loans has defaulted or is in trouble. Trine needs to do better due diligence. Positive side is they are not a scam and withdrawals are handled quickly.
I really like what Trine are doing and have invested in different projects since 2016. If you are new to Trine, I recommend investing a small amount in each project to spread the risk. Also make sure to check the rating on each project before investing.
Watch out and stay away from this! I lost 600 dollars in two different projects/loans. Trine should be moore involved in the process and don't give loans to bad companys.
I'm sorry, but nothing can change my opinion now: Trine tries to offer a decent opportunity to invest in the green energy but the only goal reached is an incredible amount of payments delays. Easy Solar, Azuri all are suspended, every 2 or 3 months just a communicate with empty words about Covid crisis: what's next? Ukraine? Inflation? let be serious, Trine have a BIG problem in their due diligence. Fortunately I'm a diversified investor and my % in this small Swedish company is also...small. Currently more than 30% of my portfolio with Trine (different companies) is in trouble, this is not normal. I do not recommend to anyone.
Trine tries to offer sustainable loans but have problems in their due diligence. They offer low interest loans and you need to invest a lot of money to get more interest so if you only want to invest a smaller amount you should see this platform as charity as they are not good at recovery. Instead of defaulting a 18 month loan they just prolong the loan for 60 month and LOWER the interest for the Borrower with most of the principle is paid out after 4 years. I asked them why the loan is prolonged for so long and not enforced and they said they can not call a loan as that would default the whole facility of all lenders. So because it will get other lending companies in trouble they are not collecting their own long overdue loan for their own investors. They offer a save first investment guarante but as long as they keep prolonging the loan they do not have to buy back the loan so this guarantee is worth nothing
I liked the idea a lot: give businesses in the 3rd world a chance, invest in solar, having a return on investment myself (allowing me to re-invest in those projects). But the truth is that a lot of projects have difficulties with repaying (currently 20 % of my portfolio, different companies). One project was defaulted entirely, so I lost all of that money. Hats off to Trine for always being transparent about what's going on. But on the other hand, I am pretty tired of all the investor letters and things I need to sign for them to be able to renegotiate some terms with the lenders. Also, my money is bound and I can't take it out (like I could with stocks). So I am stuck with Trine for another 3 years.
This relatively young Swedish company crowd-funds solar energy loans in developing countries. The idea is to support green energy while also making a profit. Most of their projects are located in African states but occasionally Trine also funds projects in Asia or Latin America. So far, I've had a very good experience with the platform and the projects I've invested in. The interest rates of around 5-8% might not fully reflect the political/currency risk involved in investing in these countries. However, Trine also uses an award-based system that allows you to earn additional interest if you are willing to invest above a certain threshold. This is a great way to invest ethically, though look at it more like the loan equivalent of charitable giving rather than a profitable investment platform, because some of the loans default apparently - trine provides a risk rating per loan but I'm spreading my investment across multiple loans to limit the risk. A few of my loans are "delayed" but trine have always been transparent about this. Great service.
Trine have a lot of work to do concerning their review and analysis of investment cases. It has become evident the last years when more and more loan takers are defaulting or having trouble repaying their loans. Trine has updated their criterias. But when asked about their review process they do not answer. My questions, sent by messenger and social media, was completely ignored. For me Trine will be a major loss. Two thirds of the 24 loans that I have participated in are now having trouble repaying their loans. One have already defaulted. This is the reason why I have serious questions about their review process. One of the lenders was having problems within 2 months of their loans starting date. Update: Of the 24 loans about 38 % are failing their repayments and one default. Trine keeps proposing extensions on the loan with decreased interest or amortization. Otherwise it would be more defaults. For me it means that about 900 of 2400 euros will be lost. Possible the worst so called investment Ive ever done. And that includes the stock market. As for the investment protection from SIDA or similar organizations. Its only useful if the loan defaults. Which it won't because trine prolongs the loans instead. Update Dec 2022: Of my 24 loans 6 have defaulted. 3 is in restructuring and will return more or less nothing of the investments. 2 are still repaying 13 have been repaid. I invested with about 6-7 different companies. Update Aug 2024: 14 fully repaid, 9 defaults, 1 that they try to get as much money back as possible. That ends up with roughly 38 % defaulting.
